2015 Topps Archives Signature Series 1982 Topps

Year: 2015
Manufacturer: Topps
Set: Archives Signature Series
Card: 1982 Topps #585
Card Attributes: Autographed, Serial numbered
Serial number: 30/34

I knew that eventually I'd end up picking up one of Rollie's cards from Topps' Archives Signature Series.  Unlike my other main player collection, Robin Yount, who's cards are super limited, Rollie has a lot of cards and most of them are relatively serial numbered high.  Of course calling a card serial numbered to just 34 a large print run is kind of ridiculous, but compared to a lot of the other players in the set, Rollie really does have a lot of cards to choose from.  After trying waiting a while I settled on a couple examples I'd like to add.  This 1982 was kind one of them.  For one it features him in a Brewers uniform, the card is numbered to Rollies player number, and I really love the 82 design. Plus you get his on card signature right next to his Topps facsimile one.  All of these card come slabbed with in a one touch with a Topps sticker sealing it shut.  The best part was this card cost me under $10 delivered!  This is why I won't gamble on high end stuff like this.  I know this has come down in price, but still $60 buck for a single card of who knows?

Still a great addition.

1982 Police Issue - Milwaukee Police Department

I recently acquired a whole set of these 1982 Brewers Police cards from the Milwaukee Police Department from Tony over at Off Hiatus Sports Cards.  It's a great set (30 cards total) and features all the big and little names on the 82 World Series team including Mr. Fingers here.  I have a few Police Issues for Rollie, but I didn't have an 82 at all so this was quite a boon to get a full team set and get to add the Rollie officially to the Super Collection, although he'll remain with the set for the time being.

The Brewers Police issue cards are interesting in that there are tons of variations because these cards were given out in multiple towns through out Wisconsin and each police department is printed on the front.  According to a list Tony was nice enough to share with me this 1982 set, which was the inaugural police issue, only has 5 variations known, but that jumps to 29 in 1983 and into the high 60's for years after that.  So a player collector has lots of cards they could chase.

I always chuckle reading the back and the player says....

Squirt

I've got a few new Rollies coming in.  Especially with Tribute and now Gypsy Queen coming out and the ole Rollster being included in both sets.

I got this in the mail the other day.

For those of you who don't know what this is it's a 1982 Squirt Bottle card.  With the hole intacted Squirt actually had two series of these.  One in 1981 and again in 1982.  The '82's came in double and singles.  I also have some Reggie Jackson single bottle toppers.

This card also reminds me of another great 82 card.

Battle-o-hair!!!

What's great about the Squirt card is it's a great premonition of things to come and if Rollie hadn't gotten hurt at the end of the 82 season these two firemen would have met in the 82 World Series.

It's also interesting that Topps used the same photo for Rollie on both the Squirt card and 81 Leading Relievers card, not so for Sutter.  The Squirt photo of Sutter makes him look like a young Kenny Rodgers.

cb out.
